Tutorial › Path 3: Preparation
Unit 5: Prepare the shoot
In this unit, you go from the page to the set: casting, the floor plan, the shot list, the sides.
Casting
- Rail › Cast › Barbenfouillis.
- Add a casting lead for each actor considered: name, contact, agent, notes.
- Choose the cast actor.
The floor plan
- Rail › Floor Plan › scene 3 (boarding the shell).
- The setup is a scene's arrangement: set, characters, cameras, lights. A scene has at least one; add another for a second arrangement.
- Place the characters and the set with the tools, at the bottom of the plan.
- Place a camera: its cone shows the field of view, from its focal length.
Animate with keys
- In the plan's list (bottom left), choose Barbenfouillis.
- Place the timeline cursor, under the plan, at 0 s, then at 4 s, and move the character on the plan: each move sets a key; between two keys, he glides.
- Read the running time: the action played on the floor plan, against the running time estimated from the text.
Snapshot records one moment of the plan: ticked "In the shot list", the snapshot replaces the shot's thumbnail in the shot list and the Bible.
The camera sheet
Each shot is a camera, described by six principles: size (FS, CU…), subject, point of view, angle,
orientation, function. Its name uses their abbreviations, for example LS-2S-OBJ. Movement and focal
length are read from the floor plan when the camera is placed there. The details:
Floor Plan.
The shot list and the breakdown
- Rail › Prep.
- Inspector › Document: the shot list (the shots) or the breakdown (the scenes, by set).
- Choose the order: narrative, by setup (the shots from the same camera position together), or by set for the breakdown.
- Print: PDF (A4 landscape) or Spreadsheet: .csv.
The sides
- Rail › Cast › Barbenfouillis › Sides.
- Tick "Highlight their lines".
- Print: one scene per page, his lines highlighted, a cover page.
End of the tutorial: what next.
