The project documents
Share › Documents gathers the project into documents to read, print or export: the Screenplay, and those that follow a template. Nothing is written here: they draw on what you entered elsewhere.
Templates
A template sets a document's sections, their order and its options. Four are supplied:
- Screenplay: the text, as pages (Share);
- Full Bible;
- Step outline: the scenes, summed up;
- Shot list file.
They can be edited; Inspector › "Reset" puts them back as they were. To create your own, type its name in Inspector › Document: it starts from the document shown. A document of your own is renamed and deleted in the inspector.
Templates are saved with the project: they apply to all your sessions.
The outline
The list on the left is the document's outline: one row per section, then its content indented (the characters, the locations and their sub-locations, the scenes, the notes). A click leads to that place in the document; the chevron folds a section.
- Tick a section to include it; unticked, it stays in its place, greyed out.
- Drag a section to change its order (or Alt+↑ / Alt+↓).
- Notes can be dragged too, within their label: it is the order of Notes.
- Scenes, characters, locations and elements do not move here: their order is the project's (the scenes: the film's, in Write or Organize).
The order applies to the page, the print and the exports.
The pages
Each document is shown and printed on A4 portrait pages, with the screenplay's margins. The content flows from one page to the next without ever enlarging a page; a heading is never left alone at the bottom of a page, and the "One section per page" option starts each section on a new page.
The sections
| Section | Content |
|---|---|
| Presentation | the Overview: title, authors, genres, format, running time, logline, summary |
| Characters | the sheets, by role (leads, supporting, extras, walk-ons, animals, unassigned) |
| Locations & Sets | the location sheets |
| Vehicles, Props | their sheets |
| Scenes | the step outline: each scene, its context and its summary |
| Full screenplay | the text, on the Screenplay's pages (its title page and its numbers) |
| Notes | your notes |
Options
Inspector › Options: title page, table of contents, one section per page, photos, full character sheets (fields, arcs), plans and floor plans in the step outline.
Print, export
Inspector › Export:
- Print: PDF through the browser: everything is there, floor plans included.
- Word document: .docx: a well-ordered base to rework in Word. Cover page, clickable table of contents (Word updates the page numbers when it opens), characters as sheets with their photo, screenplay in its layout; each element carries a named style ("Heading 1", "Field", "Arc text"…): changing a style changes the whole document. The photos of characters and locations are included (JPEG, PNG, GIF); floor plans are not.
- Portable text: .md: the text alone.
Exports follow the chosen document: its sections, their order, its options.
