Read a sent version

An author has sent you a link to their screenplay: you read it and comment on it, without an account.

Open the link you received: the sent version is shown, with the attached notes. Under the title: who sent it, when, and which version. It is a frozen version: what the author writes afterwards changes nothing in it.

If the author wrote you a letter, it opens the version: "Start reading" goes to the screenplay ("Resume at page…" if you set your bookmark). The Letter tab finds it again.

The link is personal to you: do not pass it on.

Comment

  1. Select a passage of the screenplay or of a note.
  2. "Comment", write, publish.

Your notes remain drafts the author does not see: you can rework or remove them. My comments gathers yours and, once your reading has been sent, the author's replies.

Send my reading

Nothing goes out as you go: when you have finished, "Send my reading" (at the top of the reading or in Your letter) sends the author, in one go, your notes, your answers and your letter; an email lets them know. After that, this version is read-only. It also becomes read-only as soon as a more recent version reaches you: you can still send what you had prepared on it, nothing more. In Readings, "3 to send" reminds you of a reading prepared but not yet sent.

Your letter

The Your letter tab closes your reading: what you take away, after some distance, and your answers to the author's questions (they are shown under their letter; a question that targets a scene leads there in one move). "Save" keeps a draft the author does not see; it goes with your reading, and can no longer be edited. In Readings, the version becomes Read.

A scene's history

With an account, once you have received several versions, the History tab shows a scene version after version: choose it, then a version on the timeline; its text is shown, with the changes since the previous one, and beside it what was said between the author and you up to then. A reply leads there too ("The scene's history").

Replies

With an account, the next version sent to you carries what the author did with your notes: the Replies tab shows them, each with its outcome (taken into account, set aside, later, thanks) and its reply, to filter by outcome; a note taken into account shows the passage before and after. Through a plain link, replies do not reach you: "Create an account to receive the replies" is offered when your reading goes out. With an account, an email lets you know when a version arrives in your Readings. Answer "Fine by me" to close a note, or "Let's talk again" to reopen it on the author's side.

What has changed

When you have received several sent versions of the same project, the Compare bar, above the pages, compares this version with a previous one: "Compare", then choose the starting version; "Only what changed" hides the rest, "Close the comparison" goes back to the text. From the author's letter, "Read only what changed" opens the screenplay with the comparison on.

Print

The PDF carries your name as a watermark. It stays linked to you: do not share it without the author's consent.

Create an account

A free account keeps all the versions you receive in one place, with each version, what has changed and the follow-up of your comments.

  1. In the banner at the top of the reading page › "Create an account".
  2. Username, email address, password, and the terms box.
  3. Confirm your address with the link you receive: your versions are waiting for you in Readings.

Already have an account? Sign in from the banner: the version is attached to yours. Once attached, the link only opens with that account. An author can also send you their versions directly, by your username.

Readings

With an account, Readings gathers everything sent to you, sorted by project, the most recent version at the top. To read groups the versions you have not opened yet.

  • Open a version: the list moves to the side; a second click on Readings, in the rail, opens it again.
  • Bookmark: the ribbon at the top of a page sets your bookmark there; touch it again to remove it. Next time, you resume at that page ("Resume p. 41"), from one device to another. The author does not see it; they only see your comments.
  • A more recent version arrived during your reading: "Read the latest" takes you there.

Without an account, your bookmark stays in your browser.

An account created this way is a reader account: its menu only shows Readings and Settings. To write your own projects, switch to an author account with an invitation code: Settings › Account.
